Throughout my time in WRD 110, I have learned a great deal about writing, speaking, and various ways to improve my writing style. I was surprised at how much work the class required. At the beginning, I felt as though I was writing a new blog post every other night or doing some type of small project. I was also surprised at the fact the class wasn't just focused around writing, but the though process as a whole. For example, with the documentary, we didn't just jump right into it. We spent a large time in class learning how to find primary and secondary sources, how to properly cite material, and how to clearly organize ideas. The number one thing that challenged me most was that the rubric for many of the assignments was not 100% clear. I'm the type of person that likes to have everything laid out for me. I like to know exactly what needs to be included in speeches, papers, and other projects in order to put forth my best work. Not having clear rubrics made me have a lot of questions on a majority of the projects the class was assigned. The main area I found success in was learning how to properly cite material and what material needs citations. Turns out, pretty much everything needs a citation... even photographs I take myself! Not only did I learn how to properly cite my sources, I also learned how to create a clear argument, how to use iMovie, and how to get in touch with the media depot if I ever need assistance on a project. All in all, I learned a great deal from this class and feel as though I am a better writer and speaker because of it.
