When making a documentary, there are many
factors that go into the entire process. Some of these factors include
collecting primary footage, collecting B roll footage, including voiceovers,
crediting all sources used, not invading someone's personal space, etc. The
hardest part for me has been the creative aspect. It has been difficult trying
to decide what footage I want to obtain as well as how I will piece everything
together. I feel as though figuring out how to use voice over will be a
difficult task as well and could potentially be hard to mesh with the rest f my
footage. Also regarding voice over, I am unsure what I would like to have
showing in the background as I have the voices playing.
Overall, my documentary will be about the
comparison between academics and sisterhood in sororities. I will show that by
having a strong sense of sisterhood, academics are encouraged and standards are
set forth to maintain. In order to portray this, I will collect footage from
the Willy T. Library and aim to voice over the requirements to obtain good
academic standing within the sorority. I also wish to collect footage inside
the Delta Zeta sorority house and show the different areas set up for studying
as well as how girls all gather in their rooms and do group studies.
In conclusion, I have learned a great
deal about both Sorority and Greek Life on UK's campus. I have a clearer
understanding about the top stereotypes associated with sororities and how a
large majority of college students view sororities as a whole. The entire
process of collecting information regarding these stereotypes and now putting everything
together has been a long one, but has opened my eyes and made me think
critically about all that goes into creating a documentary.
